This course offers a comprehensive study of the mesophilic anaerobic digestion process. After the objectives of anaerobic digestion and its biochemistry are discussed, anaerobic digesters and their associated equipment will be described. Digester operations, operational parameters, and some common operational problems will be presented. Basic digester math will also be presented. In addition, new developments in anaerobic digestion, including thermophilic anaerobic digestion and its relationship to meeting Class “A” requirements of the 503 regulations, will be discussed.
